Day 33: Short Story Marathon

Summary

Last story today!

Really, can’t believe it. Last night when I was pondering it, the pressure descended. Last story of the challenge, better make it good. Nope. By the morning I had shaken that off. Pressure like that is terrible for the creative process.

I got right to it, coming up with a interesting title, “Strange Ways,” and started typing out a sense-filled opening about a homeless man that doesn’t make eye contact because when he does, he sees visions of that person’s next significant life experience.

It ended up at 3,400 words and got renamed to “Through Other Eyes.”

A quick pass through “Goodbye Mrs. Hopkins” and “Death by a Kiss” and #28 and #29 are out to Dean.

Wow. Last story of this challenge. It’s been a long, exhausting, incredible journey. #30 won’t go out until tomorrow, so I’ll hold off on any reflecting until then (and likely more later when I get some distance).

But one, tiny reflection. At the beginning I planned for 2 days a story and 60 days in total. On both Saturday and Sunday I wrote 2 stories a day. Today, having only one story to write, was almost mellow. Yeah, this thing has certainly changed the scale of writing for me on many levels.

Lessons Learned: I am so lucky to have the support, health, and energy to pour into this creative endeavor.  A huge thank you to my amazing wife Aleia for letting me take all these many hours to do this. I could not have done this without her support and her ear listening to all these stories.
