Today, a very different kind of holiday anthology came out. A Dark and Stormy Holiday features my story “What it Takes to Make it In Hollywood.”
Lyn Worthen, the editor of the book, said “What it Takes to Make it In Hollywood” is a “deliciously convoluted tale.”
And it is. It’s about a man waking up in a snowstorm not knowing where he is, followed by the discovery of a dead body and his arrest. Things just get more complicated from there.
It’s a crime story, a mystery, and has a hat tip to the Knives Out series of movies.
Yup, it was a fun one to write. If you want a different view on the holiday season, one that is a little darker and a little more dangerous, do check out A Dark and Stormy Holiday.
Here’s the blurb for the book:
This holiday season, the wind whistles around the windows and a chill creeps down your spine. It’s winter noir — moody and pensive, in the Gothic tradition of “something’s not quite right.”
A Dark and Stormy Holiday offers twelve contemporary tales where ordinary people come face to face with the darker undercurrents of the season, from broken promises to desperate gambits that put everything at stake. Festive facades hide secrets, the falling snow conceals hidden risks. Sometimes touching, sometimes suspenseful, these stories take us over the river and through the dark woods into unsettling situations in stark contrast to the usual festivities.
And yet, they celebrate anyway…
